Assistant Professor at Hamilton College studying amphibian reproduction and sperm morphology. Ask me anything about sperm evolution! 〰️⚪
Thrilled to be at the @nhm.org collecting testis from frogs this week. We are hopeful that these museum specimens will allow us to look at the ultrastructure of sperm in a diverse set of frogs with different fertilization modes (pictured is a foam nesting flying frog with giant balls!)

The male green frogs just started calling tonight. Where did I find the females? Sitting in the grass, avoiding them 😅

So proud of these two! They did an amazing job with both of their presentations and built their (and my!) network. I think they might be hooked on #SICB2025

Check out the amazing structure of Plethodon cinereus sperm! It has a flagellum that contains an axoneme AND an electron-dense axial rod with an undulating membrane between. You can see the transition between the head and flagella and hints of axial rod structure in fragmented cell (in comments).

I tracked usage of my recorded lecture videos this semester, and results weren't surprising. In my 38 person class videos were accessed 6730 times this semester. Many times before the exams (red) but mostly spread out. If you have the ability, 10/10 recommend recording your lectures!

Check out this beauty! Sperm from Bolitoglossa peruviana, a very cute Plethodontid. If you look closely you can see the undulating membrane on this enormous sperm (not measured yet, but probably close to 350um).
