15/50 - The Driller Killer (1979), dir. Abel Ferrara. this one was nothing too remarkable (outside of the dinky synth soundtrack which i love). the vibe is well done but didn’t really give me much other than that

14/50 - The Tingler (1959), dir. William Castle. this is the start of my William Castle, Vincent Price and campy horror obsession going forward. just pure cheesy bliss, had so much fun watching!!!

13/50 - Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan (1972), dir. Chor Yuen. AMAZING female revenge tale. it was so satisfying to watch how it all unfolds. do be wary going into this one though, there are depictions of sexual assault that may be difficult for some viewers

12/50 - Polyester (1981), dir. John Waters. my first Waters flick and it lived up to the hype! just pure trashy fun

11/50 - ‘Nosferatu’, dir. Robert Eggers. i liked it! lily-rose depp puts on an incredible performance, otherwise there’s some decent cinematography and really cool set and costume designs. sound design was distractingly plain and lacklustre
February 5, 2025 at 7:07 PM
10/50 - ‘Project X’, dir. Nima Nourizadeh. had a lot of fun with this one, though more than anything it felt like a time capsule for its time

9/10 - 'Happy Together', dir. Wong Kar-wai. My first Kar-wai flick! It was visually striking at points and had a few touching scenes, but overall didn't really hit me. Felt shockingly straightforward in an underwhelming way.

8/10 - 'Linda Linda Linda', dir. Nobuhiro Yamashita. warmed my heart and reminded me of all of the best parts of being a teenager. wholesome, well shot, the power of friendship prevails

7.5/50 - i also saw a collection of his short film work tonight (titles pictured below), but i’d rather this series focus on feature length films! still were very interesting watches though
February 1, 2025 at 5:35 AM
7/50 - ‘David Lynch: The Art Life’, dir Jon Nguyen. feel like i understand Lynch’s work differently through this well-composed documentary! i appreciate how it revels in its simplicity, mainly focusing on still-life shots of david making art or smoking. must-watch if ur into his work
February 1, 2025 at 5:33 AM
6/50 - 'Fantastic Planet', dir. René Laloux. mind-melting worldbuilding. some of the most bizarre and downright weird sci-fi i've seen in a hot minute
