It’s a hard habit to keep, especially when Bluesky is fun. But during the pandemic I had a “in-print only”‘policy for news. Only reading articles that had to be researched, edited, and could be corrected before the edition went to print was excellent for my mental health.
I speak to you as someone who's literally part of a daily call-to-action newsletter: it is worth remembering there will be almost nothing Trump does that you need to know about immediately, and limiting your news consumption to once a day will cost you nada.
the only way to push back is to spend deliberate time determining what capacities you have that can be useful in this moment and how you are willing to use them, and then do whatever is necessary to preserve your capacity and stick to your action plan.

Starter packs are great but remember they are curated by a human being. While they got me a lot of people to start following, it took a lot of UNfollowing to get my timeline to be based on some semblance of reality.

One of the unexpected delights of quitting Meta has been the old friends reconnecting. As I’m preparing to excise myself from Facebook and Instagram, I’ve been posting asking folks to get in touch if we’re not in contact outside of Facebook/IG.

The starter packs are great but you really have to resist the “follow all” button. So many of the “journalists” I ended up following are just no-name opinion bloggers at best, and it’s taken a lot to make my feed useable after realizing I followed too many of the wrong people.

We all know people who have an entire conversation on speaker phone in public at annoying. But people who FaceTime in public and don’t even look at the video because they have to hold the phone to their ear to hear are much worse.
