ARez - Developing a game 🚀
@arezdev.de
I work on an Expanse inspired space game in my free time. Right now, I am still early in development and just doing what feels good.
Feel free to ask questions!
Well, I appreciate the chat, maybe by trial and error I will eventually get it to look like it was made from a proper artist 👍 (Or am *I* the proper artist then? 🤯)

😆 I appreciate it. But I am really more into programming and I just do the 3D stuff on the side, because thats what you gotta do as a solo dev I guess 😅

Thank you! I hope so too! Until then, my mediocre art skills will have to do 🫠

Well, the end goal is to get it to look as if it could fit into the Expanse universe without copying a design from it 1:1. So whatever textures get it there, I would be happy with 😆 (fyi I added another comment under the post which might be of relevance if you are interested)

Preferably, I am looking for someone who likes The Expanse and would be interested in the project itself, as this is really just a hobby project so I can't offer much payment. Maybe someone who is looking to improve their work or would just be interested in helping out.

For this model, I think it just needs a bit of refinement as its already in a decent shape (at least IMHO). However especially better texturing could probably elevate the model much higher than it is right now.

Oh hey, thats me! Thanks for the spotlight 😅

But at least your results look amazing 😁 I feel like even the model I just sent pictures of could be improved a lot by a proper 3D artist where as I (as a programmer) can only get so far 😅

True 😆

Im currently just chilling. Occasionally working on the game when I feel like it. Revently I have spent all my time with the "3D Models" plate from your pic 🤣

Damn, I am not sure why but this picture gives me real desktop background vibes :D Maybe it's the color grading? What do you do in that regard?
January 12, 2026 at 12:54 AM
Yes this could be very helpful! Isn't there like a proposal or PR for this already?
January 12, 2026 at 12:51 AM
Thats nice! Thanks for your work!

What happens when you got a lot of submissions for a single asset? Do you randomly choose which ones to display for each visitor? Do you sort them by some criteria?
January 11, 2026 at 10:49 PM
Thank you! Yeah honestly I think a lot of it is just having bevels in the right place, having some booleans and LOTS of insets/ extrusions 😅
January 11, 2026 at 2:03 PM
Thanks! I am glad you still see the resemblance to the Roci because that was the goal :)
January 11, 2026 at 2:01 PM
Of course this is still WIP and some stuff is missing (like PDC and railgun models) but I am pretty proud how far I got. I consider myself more of a programmer so doing this from scratch was a lot of work for me 😁
January 11, 2026 at 2:49 AM
Very cool 👍 Thanks for making it open source!
January 8, 2026 at 6:38 PM
Oh yeah that's good! Just to confirm: Can there be multiple of those flares active at the same time?
January 8, 2026 at 4:32 PM
Yes exactly
January 8, 2026 at 4:26 PM
Nice! I think this would be a good starting point for me to add something to my own lens effects repo. I am thinking of anamorphic lens flares (I think thats what they are called) for every bright spot, because right now I do the fixed sun position thing.
January 8, 2026 at 2:37 PM
Been using it as well but not for Godot. For me it works pretty well but yeah there are some rough edges (but its still pretty good overall).

I think even though they wrote "why this fails" in the picture, "failing" here is not like error from the program, but rather failing to fulfill the expectations from the programmer. Like the programmer would expect it to do X, while this code does Y.
