Achievements are often used for metrics. As an example, in PoE 50.6% of players have not beaten the tutorial boss of the very first area.

If it lets more people play it and keeps it compatible with hardware/OSes, then overall I'm fine with it. I do hope they give an option to toggle between the graphics though.
