My childhood recollection of travelling in from the southside was that the buses terminated on the quay by the Carrick. We we lived by Clarkston and served by Western and Central buses.

This a great story and I know there was similar (or the same?). Initiative in Scotland. My understanding is that much of the collections thankfully were handed over to local authority galleries.
There was a good exhibition of the Argyll and Bute collection at Dunoon Burgh Hall about 7yrs ago.

Gosh! I remember seeing them in a small venue on my first ever trip to Paris in 1985. I bought the single afterwards. Still have it!
