Yes, 100 percent that exact feeling actually

I made a game with item loss on death and replayable levels and we can't escape the "rogue like" term no matter how hard we try. The levels aren't even procedural. I fear it makes us look like we're hopping on a trend when the mechanics were designed to be good for the game in their own right.

It's what we do this for

Watch someone commit to doing it before GTA is delayed into someone else's release window lol

Yeah honestly if the demographic is different enough it could work, only issue would be the word of mouth on socials being entirely GTA regardless

Ohh you're talking about releasing the BUNDLE on that day, I gotcha

Wouldn't that just kill the launch of all of those games?

LEAVE ME ALONE

Fr though it looks cool, maybe better reserved for bigger hits? Dunno how quickly it could become grating, if at all

I'd wager the silent majority of gamers have no issue with indies, but don't know about the ones that fit their tastes perfectly. It's why I love sharing specific ones with different friends and seeing their mind blown having never known it existed. Surround yourself with these kinds of people.

I do think it's an industry-wide optimization issue. Games can look just about as good as MH Wilds and still run way, way better by ditching all this raytraced post processed guff and sticking to baked lighting and well-implemented LOD. Fancier stuff could still be used sparingly!

Thank you for pointing this out, I feel like I'm going insane. It's especially prevalent in indie horror games; it feels like we get one unique concept a year and about 30 thousand copycats with a slightly tweaked setting and the same exact structure/premise. Why do these people make games??

You can get them pretty consistently on customs if you find that little alcove behind a fuel tank near skeleton, they have to walk through a bush to get to you and you can just spray them as they come through. Somehow, they don't aimbot you through it!

This is why I went to SPT FIKA and never looked back lol

Mirror's Edge was the first game to make me realize this, because they put a lot of effort into the sound and animation of Faith slamming into the ladder. I felt kinda bad whenever I had to do it lol, that and the horrifying sound when you fall to your death

Yep, definitely agree. A lot of games also like to lean on movie-like strategies for storytelling instead of embracing the medium and telling the story more through the game itself.
I say this as someone who loves cinematic shit in games lol
