All views to be attributed first to Diogenes, than my own. I reserve the right to ridicule the ridiculous.

All errors intended. OCD is mental illness.
Sooo, the $500 GC Surplus Illumina MiSeq DNA Sequencer from the Brandon R&D Agriculture Canada Lab works.

Or at the very least it boots/POSTs.

Very cool.

So, I now officially own a MiSeq!

I still need to figure out shipping and honestly, I don't know where I'll be shipping it to.

But for $560 CAD, I may just resell it on ebay.

1 hour and 35 min annnnnd I'll personally own a quite-likely functional Illumina MiSeq DNA Sequencer.

Couldn't sleep so I ended up bidding $500 on an Illumina MiSeq Next generation sequencer.

I dare y'all to outbid my measly minimum $500 bid.

Climate Change? DEI did it!

After years of gathering supplies, research and knowledge I am pretty much ready to start recycling aluminum!

H5N1 hype train: Welcome to the new normal!

Climate-change related viral pandemics are the result of interactions between species resulting in ecological cascades.

tl;dr Population's prev foreign to each other are interacting & resulting in rapid viral mutation.

Re-watching this series. Genuinely wish there was more eco-science fiction.

The Andromeda Strain comes pretty close, but it's rare to see science treated seriously and not just as a backdrop for people and their dramatic main character syndrome. Both in media and IRL.

I had booked the remainder of this month off, but apparently I need to have a letter of support ready for a colleague by the 20th.

Thanks for ruining my staycation science! jk. C'est la vie.

There's a decent chance of genocide in Trump's plan to re-start the ICE internment camps.

Leaked photo from season 5 of The Boys.

Just in time for Trump 2.0 and his war on immigration.

This is hardly isolated to the NWT.

It's an issue in Nunavut.

But relax. It's by design.

"If we refuse to let indigenous people be educated or employ them, we can continue exploiting the colonial extraction of wealth to the smarter and more civilized."

^ Non-indigenous Canadians, alledgedly.

It is nice to be back in the north!

This is income for Inuit and non-Inuit in Nunavut across communities.

Literally what racism looks like.

Also, I wonder what the funding distribution for Arctic research looks like.

Amongst all the doomsday talk about melting permafrost, IMHO, we need to balance that with how not destroying our ocean is more important.

Why?

Imagine the world at 20°C warmer:
CH3 and CO2 = Heat
Phytoplankton = O2
O2 = Cooling

If we kill the ocean, it is game over.

Facts. There are actually grown adults who are the top of their fields who will still get into a shouting match over this one subject.

Alternative suggestion: There's an opulent waste of space that is nearby to the UoG campus.

This poster making thing is actually a ridiculous amount of work.
November 22, 2024 at 4:57 PM
ArcticNet poster is coming along.
November 21, 2024 at 1:44 PM
Preparing a poster for ArcticNet is 90% figuring out front sizes, spacing, and visual related stuff.

10% is slapping your work to fit into it.
