Its such a trope there are literal lists of fictional evil corporations
December 6, 2024 at 9:40 PM
So much pop-culture has been anti-corporate/authoritarian media: Blade Runner, Total Recall, The Running Man, The Terminator Series, System Shock, the Alien Franchise, Starship Troopers, Deus Ex, Resident Evil, Cyberpunk, "Network"

Why is everyone surprised that corporations are evil?

My childhood media consumption has prepared me for this

Have you ever owned a book so cheaply made you have to add your own page numbers? #booksky 📚💙

Hell yeah finally beat Castlevania 4 (by literally save stating every time I cleared a screen or landed a hit on a boss without taking damage) 🎮

Replaying Castlevania Aria of Sorrow on Steam Deck and I can't help but laugh at "Ronginus' Spear" 🎮

All I can think of is Kurt Russell with a flamethrower in "The Thing", torching erroneous scientific articles on how fracking helps cool the planet

More digital painting practice~
Not sure what this represents, if anything. I wonder what they're looking at? It must be beautiful. 🎨

Getting back into digital painting ~ the process of creation is exceptionally cathartic 🎨

Seriously surprised how low the %s are on these Doom achievements. Granted, most people just use ZDoom. But still, it's fun the get achievements on a game Ive been playing since I was 10 🎮

And now on to Silent Hill 3 and 4. Have played and beaten the original SH trilogy several times throughout the years. But never played through SH4. Gonna give it a try.

And going to finish getting through Stasis Bone Totem. Excellent cyberpunk-lovecraftian-corporate-dystopia-horror.

Got a head start on spooky season it seems and played through

- Resident Evil 2 Remake
- System Shock Remake
- Silent Hill (PS1)
- Silent Hill 2 (PS2)

Now on to Silent Hill 3 & 4 - beaten the original SH trilogy several times but never 4.

Been a few years - But the original Silent Hill for PS1 still holds up for me. Emotional, brooding, atmospheric, dark and even funny at times (the ending blooper reel). Still got a bit teary when Lisa realizes what she is and transforms. Now on to SH2~

Finished Ursula K Le Guin's "The Left Hand of Darkness" yesterday. A world where people can swap gender, where assassination is par for the course but not war. A tale of hard-won friendship and betrayal; of fierce love of country but no loyalty to government. Made me emotional. 📚💙

Chest-o-flintlocks is the way to go 👌And it has the advantage of forcing the user to learn how to quick-draw!

The other options for getting off multiple shots off from a flintlock look dangerous and unreliable - plus, can you imagine the kickback on a multi-barrel hand-cannon?

For a book about how human consciousness is a mistake, and we would be better off not existing, there have certainly been some chuckle-moments. An interesting companion piece so far to Terence McKenna's "Food of the Gods"

Also listening to Steven Weber's amazing narration Stephen King's "It". Damn! He kills it. But that's what you get when a talented actor reads a book. A unique voice for every character and passion in the descriptive parts of the narrative.

Listening to George Guidall narrate Ursula K Le Guin's "The Left Hand of Darkness". He has such a captivating style! His inflection and pacing are intriguing during the main narrative, and then he seamlessly integrates character voices. A Joy to listen to.

So they used Jack Nicholson AND Vincent Price in that game
