Nicușor Dan is the winner of Romania’s presidential election.
MANILA – Independent candidate Nicușor Dan is the winner of the second round of Romania’s presidential election. With over 99.37% of votes reported as of press time, and with an estimated turnout of over 64.7%, the candidate, who is also the mayor of Bucharest, Romania’s capital city, won 53.94 % of the vote against his opponent, far-right candidate George Simion, who received 46.06% of the votes. The campaign trail has been characterized by political instability and protests against the annulment of the first round of last year’s presidential (1/2) election by the Constitutional Court due to allegations of Russian interference, particularly supporting far-right candidate Călin Georgescu. Georgescu was eventually barred from running on March 7 amid several criminal investigations against him, causing his party, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), to replace him with George Simion, the party’s leader. The first round on May 4 saw Simion receiving 40.96% of the vote over Dan, who received 20.99% of the vote, followed by former acting president Crin Antonescu, who received 20.07% of the vote. The results led to the resignation of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, who was replaced by former justice minister Cătălin Predoiu. (2/2)

INTRODUCTION MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Is there any truth to the allegations? This is the lingering question surrounding Vivziepop, whose real name is Vivienne Medrano, an American animator, writer, director, and producer who is widely known for her two adult animated series, Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, along with the comic Zoophobia and several animated shorts and “speed draws” on her eponymous YouTube channel. She is also the founder of the animation studio Spindlehorse Toons and is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Vivziepop has a significant online presence, amassing, as of press time, over 10.7 million subscribers and over 1.587 billion views on her YouTube channel, along with over 1.2 million followers on Twitter (also known as X). She has also amassed further success with the release of Hazbin Hotel on Prime Video, becoming the most-watched animated series upon its release worldwide. However, opinions toward Vivziepop and her shows on the internet are highly divisive and polarized, with numerous controversies and allegations that have overshadowed the successes of herself and her shows. CONTROVERSIES While her shows have received acclaim for their animation, characters, songs, and voice acting, they have also been criticized by both media outlets and by viewers for their inconsistent pacing, excessive sex jokes and swearing, and writing inconsistencies, among others. The fandoms surrounding both shows have also been criticized and ridiculed both within and without, with some saying that both fandoms struggle to deal with criticism, irrespective of whether they are proper or not, and ridiculing the overt sexualization within them. Vivziepop herself has a long and documented history of controversies and allegations. She has faced controversies over, among other things, allegations of transphobia, racism, doxing, underpaying and mistreating employees, and drawing child pornography. Many of these allegations have varying levels of credibility, but have nevertheless been propagated by detractors of Vivziepop, notably those on Twitter and, to a lesser extent, Tumblr, as fact, despite the information within them not being verified first by those who shared it. This has led to various claims of questionable or low levels of credibility being propagated about her, including claims that she is a Nazi or that she is racist, such as towards Latinos of which Vivziepop, who is of Salvadoran descent, is related with. Vivziepop has engaged in these posts often, creating a negative feedback loop where trolls online create more and more content mocking her work for the sake of attracting her attention, and when she says that she does not like certain criticisms of her work, more casual users will perceive her responses as overly defensive, and thus say that she is unable to handle criticism properly. Her actions likely stem from her lack of formal media training as she is an independent creator. CONCLUSION Ultimately, any allegation levied against Vivziepop must not be immediately be treated as fact, and all allegations must be verified before being cleared for publication. Indeed, the outside reputation of herself, along with her works and their subsequent fandoms, have been constantly bombarded by a bottomless gold mine of controversies and allegations, many of which either lack credibility or have already been addressed years ago. The Archivian also wishes for Vivziepop, if she hasn’t done so already, to undertake formal media training so as to avoid a large proportion of this controversy, and to avoid responding to internet trolls who want nothing more than to attract more attention to themselves and draining the energy of who’s responding to them, including her. Please, verify your sources before propagating them across the internet, lest it will be propagated so much that, even if proven false, they will be taken as fact. ■
