Slab City has some of the most inclusive, open minded, open hearted people you could ever hope to meet. All refugees from conventional society. Most just for winter, and a smaller group who brave the hot desert summers. Builder Bill is of the latter group. He built and runs The Range.

My first Slab City experience was the best nights I've had in a long time! What an amazing place! All the best aspects you hear of Burning Man, but in a more permanent setting with none of the corporate bullshit.

Friday morning we left Tijuana back to San Diego. Bizarre passing through that threshold, people selling snacks, Viagra, then at the end of the street crossing a guarded threshold, the vibe palpably calmer, less chaotic. Immediate change before getting in line to speak to CBP. Next stop Slab City!

Couple of shots out the window of our wild Uber ride through the east side of Tijuana. This guy was one hell of an expert driver. Did maneuvers I would have never attempted like a pro. Things that would cause an accident in the US or Canada but are common in big traffic choked cities here.

More memorials to highway accident casualties north of the Baja state line as Ruta 1 turns northeast through the mountains towards the Sea of Cortes side. Pacific coast cloud cover clears up and the sun shines again.

As Ruta 1 turns northwest away from the Sea of Cortes toward the Pacific we have overcast skies and cooler temps for that last bit of Baja California Sur before crossing the state line back to Baja California. Morena Party's super majority in last year's election is evident here in the countryside.

Monday, the start of a new week, and the start of our long journey north. Here's just a sample of the many traditional Mexican memorials to highway accident casualties.
