Love reading every reply here and getting 0% closer to having any idea whatsoever who Gersh is

I don't think that's true

It extremely sucks ass that half the beer-serving establishments are 85% IPA and the rest blonde/pilsner/light beer.

I'll be annoying about my tastes not being catered to, yeah

Less than 1% of homes today lack indoor plumbing in America.

If that's "a lot", then surely the middle class people lacking it in 1955 reach your threshold of "significant"
November 9, 2025 at 3:06 PM
Oh now it has to be nebulously "significant" for shitting outdoors to be meaningful

Ok
November 9, 2025 at 3:04 PM
Some overlap yes - if you weren't in an area with municipal plumbing, plenty of middle class earners were slow to add septic systems. My mom grew up on a dairy farm and used an outhouse in 1955. They weren't poor, they were just in the country.
November 9, 2025 at 2:43 PM
And some of those middle class people lacked indoor plumbing, something unthinkable today.
November 9, 2025 at 2:16 PM
The middle class was MUCH less prosperous in 1955 relative to today.
