A team from the UGent (Prof. Maud Devolder) participated to the study of the limestone quarries exploited for the construction of the 4th c. BC Temple of Apollo in Delphi. The project 'Stone in Delphi' is directed by Prof. Amélie Perrier (Orléans University) for the EFA.

Deze week bevonden onze BA3 studenten zich in Athene en omstreken. In het kader van het vak Buitenlands Veldwerk bezochten en presenteerden ze enkele prachtige sites en musea en breidden zo hun kennis uit over antieke tempels, theaters, funeraire cultuur, verdedigingswerken en zo veel meer. 🏛️☀️🏺

After a career of 42 years, colleague Frank Vermeulen, professor of Roman-Mediterranean archaeology, will retire on Feb 1.

Prof. Vermeulen obtained his PhD at #UGent with a thesis on Roman habitation in sandy Flanders, and afterwards specialized in Roman-Mediterranean archaeology.

On the Campus Ledeganck there were experiments with Prehistorical stone tools and Roman metal ones. The audience was tested on their knowledge on animal bones and zooarchaeology and could get some hands on experience. Much was learned and we’re excited for the next edition, we hope you too?

The 24th of november our departement participated in the Dag van de Wetenschap 2024 on two locations! In the Krook we immersed people in the world of bioarch and the research project “Judith, a Carolingian princess in Ghent”
