Nocturnal walk at @govanstones.bsky.social

Not that I know of. I’ve been using photogrammetry with drones which works really well. as such never really bothered with lidar…..

A couple of examples attached of 3d models from a DJI drone

I’ve walked past this hundreds of times and only just gotten around to doing a #3d #photogrammetry capture of it.

This is a milestone across the road from the #Glasgow Climbing Centre easily readable with a rendering!

So, I think this is, or is part of, the Tullibole hogback….? @govanstones.bsky.social ?

The Dalserf #hogback with its fine tegulation! More restrained than its cousins at @govanstones.bsky.social but still splendid #viking #earlymediaeval #3d #photogrammetry

Warren Moor mine #3d reconstruction from a drone flight. A really interesting site and a lovely walk

A splendid little wyvern sculpture across the road from @govanstones.bsky.social. There are five other wyverns inside the church as well!

A first look at the raw #3d #photogrammetry model of Govan Old, home of the @govanstones.bsky.social. Acquired last weekend by a 15-minute drone fly-round. There’s a few missing bits but not too bad as a capture of a fairly complex building! @hornesupremacy.bsky.social

When interests collide….. 3D #photogrammetry models of the bowls of my two lutes as a starting point of whether these could be 3D printed and used as forms to make highly-accurate reproductions of mediaeval instruments

Taken when out doing a drone capture of Govan Old Parish Church today…. @govanstones.bsky.social

The largest #3d printed replica I’ve made to date. This was done in 2023 and is a 2.1m tall 70% scale replica of a column plus vaulting from Balmerino Abbey. The model was generated from #3d #photogrammetry. The replica is sectional and can be broken down for easy transportation!

Hardknott Roman Fort in the glorious sunshine. Easy to spot why it’s here! #roman

For #StandingStoneSunday, Swinside stone circle. Stunning! #megalith

First attempt at “new to me” drone #photogrammetry of Whorlton Castle in Yorkshire. Quite pleased with the result although several lessons learned for next time! #3d #castle #drone

For #StandingStoneSunday, here's the Logie Elphinstone 2 #Pictish symbol stone. A very odd shape, with two sets of super-imposed symbols and a circular #ogham. What's not to like?! #earlymediaeval #3d #photogrammetry

The “gingerbread man” #hogback stone from St Oswald’s Church, Lythe. Reminds me of the figure style at Heysham. #viking #earlymediaeval #3d #photogrammetry @govanstones.bsky.social

“Ancient Monolith in Churchyard” as the road sign states.

The Arthurlie Cross located in Barrhead, a cross shaft of the @govanstones.bsky.social school. The reverse face of the stone is clearly worn from when the shaft was used as a footbridge across a burn! #earlymediaval #3d #photogrammetry

An unusual one from the archive today. This is the 30' Hythe "Sound Mirror" located on the cliff above the town. It's a pre-#ww2 acoustic mirror, a type of experimental early #radar. The mirror's condition has sadly deteriorated considerably since our #3d #laserscan of 2005
