If you are at all interested in the tech, you would see that crypto is backed by dollars nowadays on the major exchanges.

But yeah 99% of crypto is just junk

Well, I read that a long time ago, and while mostly true, it has changed a bit. Some are not currency per se, but a transactional technology for real dollars and currencies.
