🏺 Uruk/Warka is one of the world's earliest cities. Excavations have uncovered a wide range of monumental buildings.

Our focus was on the main buildings: C and B; the 'Pillared Hall' and 'Hallenbau'; the 'Great Courtyard'; and some smaller structures.

🦫 Just wrote about DBeaver – a free, cross-platform database client that handles local and remote DBs like a pro.

🚨 Caveat: updates can break stuff, but there is a solution.

Still: 🧰 probably the best tool I’ve used for managing complex DB setups.

ICYMI: I’ve finally left Academia.edu.
They don’t support open science — they profit from locking your research behind paywalls and upselling “premium” features.

I’m done.

For an old project, I instructed 4 students to evaluate an online 3D viewer that was developed. Our task was to evaluate its potential use in archaeology, and we already had some ideas. However, I wondered if a classic 3D viewer was the right approach.

ICYMI: 🏺 Tepe Gawra ("the great mound"), is located in #Iraq. The "Round House" dates from around 4000 BCE.

🏺 ICYMI: The so-called "Red House" was discovered in the centre of the lower town of Tell Schech Hamad. It was built and used during the Neo-Babylonian period (626-539 BCE) and destroyed by fire.

ICYMI: Deadlines are both a blessing and a curse. They motivate me, but they also lower the quality of my work. The fact is, you can't work in academia without deadlines. But how do they work for you? Do you need/hate/ignore deadlines?

🏺 Heron of Alexandria (c. 10-70 CE) was a Greek-Egyptian mathematician and inventor. One of his inventions was automatic temple doors.

The doors would open automatically when a fire was lit and close again when the fire died down.
