I was sitting here holding my daughter when the news came across my feed and had a similar reaction. A glimmer of hope for a better future for our kids.

Mark Fisher has some interesting writings on this observation which he calls “the slow cancellation of the future”

Nikola Jokic, Siakam, Brunson, Middleton, Manu, Marc Gasol, Draymond… shall I go on?

Both finals teams’ rotations had 2nd round or undrafted players that were largely overlooked and I think could easily be defined as hidden gems

This is the location where they were loading the players onto the bus. It was blocked off by police and the side of the street that isn’t shown had a tarped fence blocking the view. We were at the official starting intersection of the parade and it was pretty dense. Definitely not 500k but not bad

When the bot ran the query it gave us a response as though we were executing commands in a terminal. After about 10 minutes of messing around with it we found out the LLM was role playing the whole thing. It gave us exactly what we asked for within its limits. Wild experience
June 4, 2025 at 1:45 PM
My most interesting interaction with an LLM agent was one that was supposedly tied into a companies internal knowledge base. The agent said it could run queries on our behalf. So we cooked up a query that would run a payload to priv esc us on the server the bot was running on.

The idea that the tech is just not doing what it’s supposed to, or that it’s lying implies that it can be fixed. I don’t think that it can be. Every interaction I have with these systems shows me that we are trying to force a square peg into a round hole. The tech cannot do what they say it can.
June 4, 2025 at 1:38 PM
No, it does exactly that. It’s just limited by the fact that it’s a 3D graph of a bunch of words and their mathematical correlations. It’s not capable of parsing reality or truth. May seem pedantic but the distinction does matter.

But don’t fall into the trap of treating these things as smarter than they are. It’s an elaborate role play partner above all else, it’s absolutely not a reliable source of information
June 4, 2025 at 12:14 PM
I spend a lot of time doing security testing against LLM agents for my job. No matter the model, no matter the purpose, the machine will always hallucinate to serve the user. They do some startling things to serve this end. The notion of the “yes and” machine running the world is terrifying
June 4, 2025 at 12:11 PM
People in the replies anthropomorphizing the bot with negative human traits are just as crazy as the people who do so with positive traits. It’s not lying, it’s a machine built to give you what you ask for. It’s ultimate purpose is to serve the user and that’s the fatal flaw of the tech

NBA discourse is full of people who actually don’t like basketball and just enjoy hating every aspect of the game.

That guy and Luka are always going at each other. There was a moment in the playoffs last season where Luka disengaged entirely from the play to trash talk this fan.

I don’t disagree with this but how do you handle all-time records?
