Anyway, just some random musings of someone who stumbled and found the debate. It's been a very hot topic and I just wanted to leave a post somewhere about it. I don't like breaking up my thoughts across posts like this, but this felt the most fitting place to leave them. (7/7)

...But if we had to make a choice, leaving it to vote for a group to count up or counting up how much artwork they have over the year (considering how much the fandom is defined by fanart) could be ways to determine it. (6/7)

This year I think is one such case as I've seen a lot of debate over who it is, and while I have a personal guess, they're not heads above the others (at least at this point). Leaving it as say, a Top 3 of Pawbert, Sonar, and the Vegetarian Wolf could work, and you could switch them around...

It's probably better to just have fun with the list and not treat it as a defining representation. We get many characters throughout the year, and we have our preferences for which one stood out. There are some years where I think there's little debate (Nick Wilde), but not all years fit that. (5/7)

Following that, there are critiques on the list. For instance, Mr. Wolf is counted for 2021, but his movie came out in 2022, and while you could say that his artwork started sooner with the ads, then Von should not be 2024 as artwork for him started in 2022. It's not consistent with itself. (4/7)

...It could be a case of them being close to each other and deciding one way, but in that sense, it does make him being the definitive choice of 2017 more debatable since you can think of other candidates on his level and we didn't necessarily have a vote to split the tie. (3/7)

Plus, while made for fun, it's not perfect. They likely tried to be objective, but it's hard with lists like this since your bias can skew it a bit. A good example of that I'd say is 2017 as while Gregg was popular, I remember seeing far more of Kass and I know a few have said the same...

To begin it's interesting to me how it blew up as it wasn't a big award when it first popped up, just someone who made a post with a list. I don't know if it was intended to be definitive, but it was their personal view on what they thought it was, and it kind of took on a life of its own. (2/7)
