I love this hack and I don't care if that means we sell less inserts. These guys have other benefits. They wash easily and dry super fast. This means they're easy care and a good candidate for hand washing and line drying. 💁

The same way you want to clear debris from dishes and use clean soapy water to wash them, cloth diapers don't want to be washed in dirty water. A prewash with a small amount of detergent ensures that your main wash can actually get the job done.
