Love how these funky corridors make more sense once you've seen a Dalek in them but still not TOTAL sense. Clearly there are or were artistically-inclined Dalek architects to create these Art Deco type hallways. If I had a dream house they might have those circular corridors.

Very clever to have Barbara touch the camera! Episode is quite slowly paced. It feels like she's walked into an art film.

They get to the city and it looks straight out of Aelita Queen Of Mars or Beyond The Time Barrier or something. Gorgeous, to me.

Love the beat where Susan expresses interest in cultivating a flower and then Ian carelessly smashes it in heedless excitement. I wonder if this is going to be a story about that!

Sometimes I've singled out good shots, but this is literally the worst possible blocking for a fight scene.

Dr. Who nearly kills a wounded man by bashing his skull in with a rock, just like those who died in the Cave Of Skulls, just out of expediency. The shot mirrors the opening titles, except that rock was used to free the prisoners. This undermines all their ideas of superiority to the cavemen.

As soon as this happens, they break back off into their groups of two (in analogously-posed, immediately-adjacent shots) and start bickering about who's the leader between the two men. Dr. Who ends up physically leading while Ian takes charge from the rear. The women of course are hysterical.

Dr. Who himself arrives coughing and plays philosophical games. He casts doubt on all the evidence they've drawn from empirical senses and appeals to faulty common sense that the obvious conclusion (Susan is in the police box) is absurd. It's disingenuous, unconvincing, and alarming.

The question of what could possibly be her deal drives the teachers' concern, and therefore the plot intrigue since they're our perspective characters. It's not long, though, before Ian says flat-out that they're not worried about her well-being, they just want to satisfy their curiosity.
