Develop a habit of looking at the profiles and recent post history of people who "follow" you on social media. Some of them are fake accounts and bots, used as part of marketing funnels for scams. Block them.

So… I asked Google in a few different ways, and only one of them elicited this speculation from Gemini. It's pretty good.

Once you eliminate all the external components (cables, switches, router or gateway) by making sure that traffic passes through those devices OK, how do you makes sure the operating system is OK on your suspect device?
You can ping through the WiFi interface, or through an ethernet dongle.
