In my opinion, what a president does on their first day in office says an awful lot about their priorities.

grant a permission structure for increased violence and hateful rhetoric towards trans people.

You cannot executive order a group of people out of existence. Full stop. For those that said 47 didn't really care about "the trans issue," this order was signed on the first day of his presidency.

send the explicit message that being trans is wrong and shameful to people questioning their gender identity, people who already experience a higher rate of suicide attempts (not because of their gender identity, but because of lack of support);

It will/ has the potential to: make bathrooms, and locker rooms less safe for trans people and potentially cisgender people who present outside of the very binary/stereotyped view of gender; make travel more challenging for trans people; reduce access to life-saving medical care for trans people;
