Theyre shapeshifters with a beast form which are mix of fish and dragon, its a joke with how the shape of the 2 yin yang parts are sometimes called yin yang fish and its silly :)

No, no reason, especially since in my story they live in times where the first day of the year follows the lunar calendar and not january 1st/gregorian calendar, it wasnt picked with that intent
