The issue isn’t that they are using a silly metric for merit, it’s that they are allowed to be selective at all. What purpose does that serve for us?

It definitely misses the forest for the trees. Switching to phonics is not going to fix the greater reasons why students aren’t learning. If it even has any impact whatsoever. That said, I see this as a hit piece similar to waiting for Superman

More like the quibbling between calling someone a devil or a demon in DnD.

But are absolutely destructive and evil to the aims of fair public education. Is segregation really that much better of an aim than religious education?

Agreed. But that’s why I think that a lot of these particular policy issues like homework and grading are red herrings. The real force driving their harm and inauthenticity is districts having power over teachers

Why would they develop PDs and give feedback? They have less expertise and less commitment to learning than the teachers. There’s a reason their input is held in contempt. Why would they set the tone when they have no classroom involvement?

Is it really teachers you are getting resistance from? Standardized testing, keeping the kids in the classroom at all times, these are pressures coming from admin.

Why would you expect admin of any engagement to lead teachers? They aren’t teachers and it isn’t a leadership position.
