I mean Mickey Mouse is based off of minstrel shows/blackface yet it's somehow "quaint Americana". We're so surrounded by it and steeped in it that we don't recognize half of it.

Fin: Heated Rivalry contrasts with similar-budget queer films by choosing joy, rivalry, and romance over trauma and tragedy. Where many LGBTQ+ stories of comparable production quality still emphasize struggle, Heated Rivalry refreshes the genre with humor, sports energy, and unapologetic queer love.

4. Playful Narrative Choices: The detour to Scott and Kip's smoothie-shop romance in Episode 3 adds levity and variety. This kind of playful side-plot is rarely seen in queer dramas of similar scale, which often stay tightly focused on one central couple.

3. Production Polish: As a Crave/HBO Max co-production, Heated Rivalry boasts slick cinematography and star-making performances. Many queer indie films of similar cost lean toward raw, minimalist aesthetics, emphasizing grit over polish.

2. Mainstream Accessibility: By situating its romance in hockey-a hyper-masculine, mainstream sport-the show normalizes queer love in spaces often coded as heteronormative. Comparable-budget films usually avoid such settings, sticking to urban or artistic milieus.

I used Copilot to outline all of this very well: 1. Queer Joy vs. Queer Pain: Heated Rivalry embraces queer joy, showing love as playful and affirming. This contrasts with decades of films where gay characters were punished or sidelined, refreshing the genre by centering romance instead of trauma.

The show doesn't feel low-budget. I think it has a pretty refreshing (not too stereotypical) plotline (unlike some shows that are too predictable or cheesy AF). Also, closeted athletes (and coaches) are real and seem underrepresented in tv shows and movies. It also is like a simple happy romance

I feel like you could if you did a modified one of the one above it, top standing with bottom on fours on bed... It's just the bottom position probably wouldn't work since they're kneeling (but the top position is standing so that should be fine)

This admin is wasting taxpayer dollars doing petty stuff like this rather than focusing on actual quality-of-life issues 😔 it's so childish

Noticing this earlier but obviously this is essentially Shane talking about how unlikely it is that Ilya and him becoming "friends" (clearly very "friendly" 😉 😉), but his Dad's comment is also very apt for their relationship as it foreshadows trouble for it in the future

"Like a tiger and a bear, a cow and a duck,... a snake and a baby", then his mother says you would be watching videos about hockey, but his father says, "I think keeping up with that snake and baby sounds pretty important. Relationship could go sideways pretty fast." I feel a little dumb for not
