Child care has been treated as a private burden in this country because of a long history that placed this work on women, expecting them to carry it without support. A new roadmap we released will begin to shift that legacy by laying out how NYS can build a truly universal child care system ✊🏾✊🏽

Getting universal child care right is going to require the honoring of families choices and family child care providers, lifting up those who have been left out of these conversations for too long. Truly universal child care must be built with our communities, not just for them!

Our roadmap for the year starts with you.

At this weekend’s Parent Conference, we saw a Bronx parent leader proudly rocking their AQE hoodie, a joyful reminder that this movement is built by all of us. Take the NY Speaks survey for a chance to win our 25th Anniversary hoodie!

When someone with Andrew Cuomo’s platform uses their power to feed hate and spread suspicion instead of solidarity, it puts lives at risk. The strength of this city has always come from people standing together and refusing to let hate divide us – and we’re calling this what it is, Islamophobia.

This is what policy failure looks like, and it can’t be allowed to continue.

Early voting begins this Saturday, New York. Be mindful that this is an opportunity to loudly make our voices heard and decide who gets the privilege of protecting programs that keep our communities fed and warm.

A special thank you to Senator Robert Jackson, whom we are proud to call a friend and Mr. CFE. He pulled out all of the stops on party night and has stood with us from the very start in the fight for equitably funded public schools. We are truly grateful to have him by our side.

Big thanks to Chancellor Ramos of @nycschools.bsky.social for sharing such a heartfelt message at our anniversary celebration. It meant a lot to hear directly from someone leading our schools with such openness. Grateful for the moment and for your support of NYC’s students and families!

Major thanks to Education Chair Rita Joseph @council.nyc.gov for always turning out in support of our kids and consistently standing alongside of the AQE family at every fight on the ground for New Yorkers.

Big thanks to NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli (@nyscomptroller.bsky.social) for turning out at our silver anniversary celebration. Your statewide leadership and commitment to protecting public dollars so they can be invested in what matters – like our kids and communities – doesn’t go unnoticed!

Thousands of NYC students and educators spend their days in buildings with mold, asbestos, and toxic air. It’s environmental injustice in plain sight, and it’s hurting our communities.

Let this be your reminder that NYC charter schools’ loyalties lie with the state’s millionaires, billionaires, and most profitable corporations rather than the Black, brown, disabled, and lower-income communities they claim to represent

Two upcoming ways to take action and learn up in NYC!

Too often, school suspensions push Black, brown, immigrant, disabled students, and students from lower-income households out of classrooms, fueling inequities that last a lifetime. Call on Governor Hochul and the state legislature to pass the SNS Bill 📬

Today and every day we honor lives cut short and the communities who continue on, carrying their stories of loss and resilience. We hold close the truth that remembering means choosing care and justice for every child and every family.

New Mexico just made history, becoming the first state to guarantee universal, no-cost child care for EVERY family. THIS is the kind of leadership New York’s working families and educators need + NOW is the time for @governor.ny.gov and our State Legislature to deliver truly universal child care ✊🏾✊🏽
