things like Lemmy (news aggregator) and bulletin boards require something that allow more closely linked communication.
If AP is not the right choice, then we need something else that can allow this. Maybe AT? Or RSS 3?

Well, I meant it in technical sense. If I am subscribed to your feed, it doesn't give me a way to reply / interact with it in a way that reaches you.

While I love RSS etc. (and use them regularly), they are for one way communication. I like the fact that I can interact with a post (like reply / repeat etc.) on fediverse.
Both have different use case for me, and are equally important imho.
