I used a beechwood ikea countertop, cut two inch strips, then rotated 90 degrees each cut to make a long lasting cutting board that is gentle on knives and hard on bacteria.
The wood draws in water creating an anhydrous environment that causes bacteria to dessicate.

A bespoke Jenga set made of padauk and purple heart that I made my youngest's birthday.
When you work purple heart it can turn grey, just expose it to UV and the natural purple returns.
