Halloween at the beach....here's a seagull dining on a seal. It's beautiful here 90% of the time but we often get a beachful of dead animals from smoke, other times they arrive in a wave as if something in the water killed a ton of birds or drove anchovies to leap onto the shore. Changing, aways.

Writing in 1830's Hunchback of Notre Dame, Victor Hugo wrote, "Every civilization begins as a theocracy and ends as a democracy." Yet, the history of great civilizations shows that every empire fails eventually, be it from pressures internal or external. Et tu, Brutu?

A typical evening in Seacliff, Aptos CA. Yet to gerrymander or not is the question in CA, they say, even as they are being arrested, deported, deprived of tax equity and justice.

"I'm a fool for going to the beach while it's raining," I thought. Yet the rain produced a double rainbow over Seacliff State Beach.

Saw whales this last weekend at Seacliff State Beach. They were just past the breakers, in shallow water just past the sandbar, begging the question whether they were evading great white sharks, so common here yet generally unseen. Meanwhile seals and otters are regulars as shown here.

It's officially spring! Our plum trees have been smelling lovely; they were all over Japan, both pink and white types, goddess forbid we accept diversity, as I hiked over 100 miles/160k, making late winter smell wonderful, complimented by wintersweet, daffodills and this cumquat variant.

Yesterday I visited Fat Dragon Temple, one of the 88 temples of Shikoku island's walk around the island. It's a cool slice of history from 1200 years ago. Yet there was only a skinny dragon, getting stabbed by a goddess. #japan @unseenjapan.com

When Trump was elected in 2016, it made me think the voters needed an engaging fun way to be informed and educated. They needed empathy without a lecture, ala SNL or Mad Magazine. My solution? Manga, or Japanese style comics magazine: play.google.com/store/books/... #comics #resist #Manga #trump

I ran a university internship at UC Santa Cruz in political art entrepreneurship, creating an anti-Trump manga(ala Mad comics) and publishing it in English and Spanish, a link to the latter follows: play.google.com/store/books/details/Douglas_Bragdon_Historietas_de_Santa_Cruz_Manga_1?id=gdQtEAAAQBAJ

@ohenrosan.bsky.social Hi BlueSky, I started walking Japan's Ohenro trail, 1200 kilometers/750 miles across 88 Buddhist temples in 2023, drawing each temple. As one priest at temple #51 said, it's not about just religion, history, or tourism, but promoting understanding and world peace.
