Even in canon this can work!! If Sham betrays Garling and fights by Shanks’ side, they win but Sham is gravely injured. Shanks begs Hongo to care for him. Sham, in and out of a coma-like state for weeks, always hears Hongo’s voice. Eventually wakes up to his savior’s warm smile 😍
