Actually this isn't quite right/can identify something deeper. Hypocrisy can be a revealer of a couple different things. In this case, what it's mostly revealing is a rhetorical facade. "States' rights," "freedom of speech"—
A tweet reading: Fuck your feelings. But my feelings are precious. Violence is never ok. But people I don't like should die. Free speech is when I can say what I want without consequences. But your words have consequences. You should respect the dead. But I can mock them. Cancel culture is wrong. Except when it's used on people I disagree with with. When you do it, it's wrong. Don't want to spend the time rewriting so let me share these two screenshots :P
Andor S2 E8 spoilers. I've seen a couple people imo misinterpret the moment with Syril - essentially seeing Syril as actually having been about to shoot Cassian. Cassian asked "who are you" because Syril was already hesitating to choose to shoot him. I don't think it's perhaps likelv Syril would've joined the Rebellion had he survived, but that moment was a moment of impulse in him - towards the good and away from imperialism. In the completion of a character arc, it was Syril's moment of greatest nobility that saved Cassian's life, and only we the viewers will ever know that that was the case. Also I think the writers likely did this with the intention of helping us think about all the small and large impulses and instances of good that have gone unseen in resisting and responding to our own real world empires/oppressors.
