Schweinitz’s sunflower (Helianthus schweinitzii) is a rare endemic to the piedmont of NC and SC. It requires fire or periodic mowing and doesn’t tolerate deep shade. It occurred in prairies or savannas, but is now mostly found in transportation and utility rights-of-ways.
