the FFXIV developers literally let an npc essentially say "the word souq means city" in shadowbringers so I don't get why any of you would think this is a sincere attempt at anything. they are willfully ignorant they are not trying here.

I genuinely feel so hopeless and heartbroken. I used to pray with all my heart that the day would come where we see Arab culture depicted with truth and sincerity, but the developers are willfully ignorant. I can't bring myself to go to the forums to try and speak out against orientalism anymore.

While I agree with the sentiment in this post (especially considering how poorly implemented electrope is to historical Alexandria's archeticture within XIV), and I understand it likely wasn't the OP's intention to do any harm ; the timing of this post is deeply inappropriate when the current (1/8)
dawntrail shouldve used ff13 for its expansion instead of ff9 because 13’s futuristic aesthetic is so much better than how soulless (no pun intended) and boring solution nine feels

And, if you think of it... that's essentially what the Endless are. Recreations made from memories. But we know they still are themselves in a way. Elidibus thanks Athena for the chance of meeting the WoL again, and throughout the fight he is enjoying himself, so he's capable of feeling and thinking

Today's FFXIV thoughts: I don't think the reduction of Sphene or Calyx to mere computer programs out of hand works for me. And the reason why is Pandemonium Anabaseios.
In those raids we meet the shades of Lahabrea, Elidibus and Erichtonios, created by Athena from fragments of their memories.
