As I reread CRIMINAL, I really start to think that secretly, this is Image Comics best book and it’s not even close.

Granted, I haven’t read them all so what do I know. Anyway, The Last of the Innocents was a gem of a story. #comic

Took in an early screening of Fantastic Four First Steps and was pleasantly surprised. The cast are all great, they get the characters right, and embrace the nuttiness of the Jack Kirby comics from the ‘60s. Added bonus - you don’t have to do any homework AND they gave me a free badge. RESULT!

12 episodes into Hardcastle & McCormick and the car is in it a lot less than I remember but Brian Keith and Daniel Hugh Kelly are a really good double act. Cannell’s dialogue (or his writing team) is far funnier than people give it credit for.

The sun is blazing so an early start with dog walking, then coffee and comics. Picked this up on a whim as it’s an interesting premise - it’s a comic from within the film! This is really fun and sets up the movie well. It’s also made me more interested in the film.

Proof, if any were needed, that films are are much better than reality, in Heads Of State Idris Elba is the UK Prime Minister & John Cena is the US President. Both are attacked on Air Force One en route to a NATO conference. Far more entertaining than it has any right to be.

Kicked off a mini Danny Boyle season with Shallow Grave, his first film. Gloriously ‘90s nowadays, the 3 leads are all great as the most obnoxious flatmates anyone could ever want. The ending is more satisfying than logical but it was a magnificent calling card.

Despite being a child of the 80s and watching the cartoons and films, I’ve never read a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic. Read The Last Ronin and it’s really good. Comparisons to The Dark Knight are apt but you don’t really need to know a lot about the Turtles to get something out of this.

Geoff Johns and Bryan Hitch tell the story of Simon Pure, British redcoat turned immortal in the war of independence. Things get wild when he has to team up with an also immortal Benedict Arnold and a young Albert Einstein, to prevent the destruction of America! Surprisingly fun to read.

Exhibit A why I love 1960s Marvel Comics.

“The Origin of Nick Fury’s Eyepatch!”

Brilliant!

Batman has already met Deadpool …

Sort of.

Savage Sword Of Conan from @comicstitan.bsky.social is still one of the best buys on the stands. This month’s issue has 4 stories, one prose story and art pieces. Great stuff.

Today’s top TV/Film Tie-In is technically cheating as it was a book before a film but I’m having it. Very different to the Arnie movie, it’s currently being remade by Edgar Wright reportedly more faithfully to the novel. it’s a tense and fast paced read.

Lazy morning reading and drinking coffee. This was very entertaining. The only tie in I read was Batman #150 which is easily one of the best Batman stories in a long time.

Once again filed under, “it’s the little things that make us happy,” I found a copy of Six Million Dollar Man #1 from 1976! Rather simplistic in art and story, it’s still great fun to read and Steve Austin here has some of the abilities he only ever had in the novel, rather than the TV show.

I did not know Peter David wrote a mini series about The Phantom.

One of the most nihilistic issues of Spider-Man I’ve ever read. But you know what? It’s the first issue of 8 Deaths of Spider-Man I actually liked.
