So I can't really see their relationship as anything more than Kaifun taking advantage of Minmay's goodwill to be an abusive incestual groomer who, by the time of his departure, was a main factor in causing Minmay and Hikaru to grow apart, along with making her lose her motivation to be a singer.

Throughout the story, Kaifun saw the potential Minmay had and sought to exploit it for his own gain (one of the earliest signs being when he forced her to sing while under attack). It gets worse once we get to the restoration arc, where he's clearly abusing her when things don't go his way.

Minmay had affection for Kaifun, but because she saw him as an older brother figure that she relied on, not from a place of romantic affection. One of the main reasons Hikaru and Minmay grew apart was that Hikaru assumed a romance was developing between them when Kaifun forced himself upon her.

Minmay only said that she "guessed" that she liked Kaifun more because she was confused by Hikaru's sudden love declaration, as their relationship grew distant by the end of the war due to their responsibilities. Heck, they even kissed after Hikaru convinced Minmay to sing for their cause.

It’s pretty solid, but it makes me want to read the novel once it gets translated, because the OVA is a sequel to it.

Beyond the acting and the demand by the Zentradi, it wasn’t willing. Minmay is a grooming victim, after all.
