Also, the bday girl brings cake to her colleagues / classmates not the other way around. Round birthdays (30-40-50 etc) are significant wedding-class events. Guests bring gifts, give toasts or write songs but the bday host/-ess plans and pays for the venue, food and entertainment.

Sounds like an American thing? In other places, it is how you thank your friends by spoiling them with food, entertainment and including them in what often is quite expensive for each cover you add.

I used to enjoy the show but stopped watching after The Visit. Won’t return. Will miss the joyful sports talk in the opening, Mika’s exasperation and the wonderful guests. But I will never watch it again. Cowardice is a dealbreaker for me.
