I have autism and I make video games

But here's a video of what I've been working on, I put the JRPG on pause (because that's going to be WAY too much for now)

Instead, I'm making the diet soda of games, a Wave Game, and it's already my best yet, just look at it.

With University starting soon I'll have less time to code, so here's what I have so far.

The end goal is to make a fun Turn Based RPG, using a bunch of mythical monsters. Of course you play as a monkey, otherwise it wouldn't be an Ape Byte game.

The Trailer for Hot Shot Monkey,

I'm really proud of this, it's my first ever trailer, and I plan to use it for steam.

I'm also changing my handle to Ape Byte, I think it sounds more confident and gives a better understanding that I'm a game developer.

Here it is with a background, because I still want to improve my landscape drawing skills, I think this looks 100% better than the last one I did.

So, I'll be sure to use these characters one day, but until then I'm happy with the Steampunk Western.

I spent my day drawing, so here's what I made.

first, I practiced drawing monkeys and people.

Then I thought "I should work on wings", then my next thought was of course "This would look cool as a boss"

So now here's some art I made, I'll find a way to use it on a future project

It's the Queen Bee!

This boss has taken the longest so far, but I think it was worth it, especially the cool lasers, I'm just happy to be done with it though.

This boss is based off of what historically built the American "Wild" West.

Farmer Cutscene, similar to the others.

This boss is based on old farmers in the American Midwest, so shotgun, axes, and a shovel, and terrible farming practices, it's also based on the folk tale of Johny Appleseed.

Oil Baron cutscene, I'm keeping it similar to the Sea Serpent.

This boss is based on...Oil Barons, and the gold rush of the Wild West.

You also get to the see the signature attack, "Oil Shot" which leaves pools of boiling oil.

I've removed challenge scrolls, but I have replaced them with super awesome cutscenes for each arena, check them out.

I think having a base reward that doesn't change just makes balancing easier on me.

Showing off a new destroyable environment, both the player and boss can destroy the small cacti.

Also showing off new weapon type the "Apple Sause Maker", which shoots 2 apples which explodes into more bullets.

I really like this one, it's based on the Horned Lake Serpent myth, and a waterwheel.

Look a background.

No longer stuck in the void, everything is much more vibrant now that's not just the basic test scene grey.

Sound is back in Hot Shot Monkey,

No more weird awkward silence in the game, and a WAY better sound code as well so less audio bugs.

And thanks to @marcushimself.bsky.social the flamethrower now makes a cool scorch effect when you use it.

The trinity of the normal drones are finished.

I really like each one, they keep their unique trait while also being far more versatile than before.

Like the Musket Drones can now shoot rockets, and that's just awesome.

Just finished readding Basic Drones for Hot Shot Monkey

One step closer to being all caught up again

I have made a slight change, now Basic Drones spawn in with 1 of 3 different gun variants, should add a bit more challenge and variety to the game.

I've readded the discard shell code again, I've readded barrels and health recovery items, and lastly, I readded the outfit UI system.

Only a few things left until I'm caught back up, with cleaner origination and code.

I was supposed to take a break from coding today, but I got this idea for a new Visual way to show that you're under the effect of an active item.

Yello = Banana
Pink = Smoothie

I'm rebuilding Hot Shot Monkey from scratch.

The Pros is everything runs faster and I'm able to fix up some really poor and old code.

Cons it takes a long time, and the grenades are broken

At least the new UI looks sharper too

Font changes. I think the new font looks nicer and adds a more western vibe. I'm mostly just doing some small tweaks here and there for now.

I added Save Data, and broke a lot of stuff, 2 Steps forward, one step back. but call me a chief cause I'm cooking lots of spaghetti code.

In all seriousness it's for the best the code broke now, so I can update things.

It's not finished yet, but I think it's cleaner than the current model.

Got a little bored coding today so I practiced my art skills.

For my first time ever doing an art piece like this I think it looks...okay. I think it also looks better when I cut out certain parts.

Safe to say I'll just stick to my smaller canvas.
