Two students, Leigha Schultze & Charlie Tourbaf, presented “Redefining Wilderness: Comparative Perspectives and Policy Impacts in Protected Areas Across the U.S., Canada, and Australia” at the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences annual conference in Minneapolis today. They did great!

Of all the dumb ideas this guy cares about, changing the name of The Gulf is about the dumbest. I don’t think the name should be changed, but IF it was to be changed, it should be “The American Sea” as this book pointed out. By the way, you should read this book…it’s amazing.

"Condors over Cattle: Managed Wilderness and the Pastoral Tradition in Northern Baja California" is out in Journal of the Southwest. This work with Bryan Rasmussen results from field visits and interviews and explores tensions between conservation and pastoralism. Message me if you'd like a copy.

After six month here, we leave Australia in a week. I will miss it so much. It was amazing, fun, and a tremendous learning experience. Not pictured, dozen of articles on Australian environmental issues and a few books I read for fun that were not about Oz.
