Traveller, linguaphile, pseudo-intellectual. I care about grammar, social justice, foreign cinema, the Euro and the Tour de France. Je parle français, hablo un poco español. Live on Ngunnawal Land. That's me on the left. No DMs.
I agree. Especially because the definition of Semitic includes Palestinians.

It may be a minor point in the midst of othe4 criticism of this 'plan', but personally I object to the use of the term 'antisemitic' to mean anti-Jewish or anti-Zionist. Palestinians are, by definition, Semitic. My guess is many Jews don't speak Hebrew except in religious ceremonies.

I know it's a minor criticism of the plan, but I refuse to use the term 'anti-semitic' to refer to anti-Jewish or anti-Zionist words or actions. By definition, Palestinians are Semitic.

And another band cheering on Stage 2 of the #TdF.

Taking some time this afternoon to watch Stage 2 of the #TourdeFrance. The rain and cold are not discouraging spectators and bands.

How Trump stole the election. He made sure people didn't vote.
June 22, 2025 at 12:24 AM
It's heartening for the rest of the world to see so many people marching against Trump across the country. But remember that he was elected by less than 1/3 of eligible voters. More people than that voted for someone else, and even more didn't vote at all. Get out the vote.

The view from Australia. Fiona Katauskas sums it up perfectly.

Edmund, like so many, isn't interested in facts, but this chart always gives me heart.

While we're debunking conspiracy theories and stupid myths, I'll just put this up about wind farms and bird deaths.

Jenni Hermoso has won her court case. Of course the kiss was sexual, and it defies common sense that she would have - as Luis Rubiales asserted - consented to it. But there is a simple test of right and wrong here. Would it be all right if a powerful man publicly kissed his male star striker?

In your deep dive, don't forget the random events that meant Australia did not become Australie. (Not that the French would have handled colonisation better than the English, but we wouldn't have had to wait so long to have croissants everywhere).

#LaPérouseDayOn 26 January 1788, Jean-François Galaup, Comte de la Pérouse, with his vessels, L'Astrolabe and La Boussole, arrived at Botany Bay in time to see Captain Phillips and the First Fleet take off for Sydney Harbour. Six weeks later they sailed off into the Pacific, never to be seen again.

Does 'liberally biased' mean 'a conclusion I don't like'? The findings are about health care outcomes, not politics, and for the nation as a whole, not just a few lucky individuals.
Here's a link to the AJMC report, so people can make their own conclusions.

I'll just post again the painting I discovered by Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla. Polio-affected kids, 1899.

I just happened on this painting by Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla. No doubt Kennedy has no problem with polio, but the bad news is it doesn't only affect poor people, which explains FD Roosevelt getting it. And this is exactly why #vaccination.
