I maintain that the rhyming of Billions and Millions makes us oblivious to the 3 orders of magnitude difference. Having politicians converse in Scientific notation would be useful—but that would mean scientifically literate politicians, so here we are.

It’s not an anomaly if it’s both understood and has a clear source. Scientists use the term for clarity among scientists. We should just call it. “Human caused temperature increases of 1.51C….”
