I’m sharing this because silence only protects the aggressors. If you ever witness something like this — please don’t look away. Check in with the person being targeted. A small act of kindness can make a huge difference.

I know this man doesn’t represent everyone, but it’s hard to ignore how the climate in this country has changed. There’s a growing hostility toward immigrants and anyone perceived as “foreign,” and experiences like this make it impossible to pretend otherwise.

He was so aggressive that I thought he was about to hit me, and I ran. I’m still shaking.

I can’t believe this happened — in a busy, supposedly safe area, just for speaking another language. It’s frightening, humiliating, and deeply sad to be honest.

This afternoon, walking home in Wimbledon and talking to a friend on the phone in Spanish, a white British man in his 50s/60s suddenly came up close to me and started screaming — telling me to “f*ck off to your own country, now, NOW!!!” so close to my face.

Oh wow! We must apply…
