🔊Boosting our new work:

Emotional contexts influence vocal individuality in ungulates, Osiecka, Lefèvre & @ebriefer.bsky.social

Turns out that emotional valence impacts the level of vocal individuality - some parameters remain stable indicators of ID across emotional states.

🔊Sth I've been playing around for nearly 2 years and dropped now, too lazy to write a preprint for null results: temporal/rhythmic structure of little auks' classic call doesn't seem to carry neither sex nor partnership info (pDFA, XGboost, S-UMAP vis + densities). ID coding updated.

I mean, if you "review" a paper using AI (which btw is pretty illegal I'm sure) then it really isn't just the author of the prompt who's to blame, no? www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/07...

Back from the Roller Derby World Cup with all the feels. When we actually put effort in care and community, it is SO SMOOTH to create safe spaces that celebrate all colours, genders, ethnicities, backgrounds, sizes, ages & abilities. Spread it to academia! Siamo tutti antifascisti ✊❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

🔊🦜Check out the summer #IAATE Flyer for a small perspective note of the #manyparrots consortium: How companion animals can help us understand musicality, vocal learning, and communication.

🔊🐦🎵Very happy to share our new preprint*: Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) males sing using individual isochronous rhythms and maximise rhythmic dissimilarity with neighbours.

Last days to submit an abstract for this SWEET early career bioacousticians' conference, JJBA. I could not recomment it more - and am very excited to send my ultra talented students there this year with some independent sci comm ideas :) jjbioacoustique.wixsite.com/jjba/en

What a treat for the brain to be in real language classes again <3 Thanks to the Humboldt Foundation for this absolute treat before my actual postdoc starts. Apparently my German sounds Danish, og det er så sjovt og rart at høre. 👽
