#OTD in 1776, the Staten Island Peace Conference took place between British Admiral Lord Howe and American delegates Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, & Edward Rutledge. After just three hours, negotiations went nowhere, after Howe refused to recognize American independence, and the war continued.
