Your original comment was about literacy. Republicans are not the reason literacy levels are down in the US. But they did play a huge role in why American students lag behind in science.

Dems in Congress blocked Bush’s agenda. It is in episode three of the podcast. Creationism hurt ls science teaching for sure, but not literacy.

But we know now, and big blue cities like NYC are finally bringing science-based reading programs back into the curriculum. All the teachers have to be retrained because in this time teachers colleges have been turning out graduates that don’t actually know how to teach kids to read.

And unfortunately in this instance the left won.

Basically George Bush was pushing for science-based teaching methods to be used in school. But the left felt much more affinity for a method that lacked any scientific proof of success. So teaching kids to read became a huge political battle, to the detriment of the American people.
