Oh that's horrible. I can see why you'd want to trace them so much - someone should remember them!

(I should probably clarify that 'mental asylum' is what's on the death certificate. I should probably look into more what kind of institution it was.)

Sounds horribly plausible. I found one mystery relative in a mental asylum (we think possibly she had Down Syndrome).

Have you checked them against the civil records to see if you can find a marriage? www.irishgenealogy.ie/civil-record... (And yes on names - I have two different branches that peter out because I can't find the right John Murphy.)

My great-granny was born in 1912 and I'm between two options for her family in the 1911 census - hopefully this will get me the answer!
