We ask: how might these forms of stewardship and connection with more-than-human kin push us to rethink development, agriculture, and conservation as culturally embedded and relational fields of practice?

If you will be New Orleans, please join us on Saturday from 2:30-4:30! (3/3)

Drawing on ethnographic insights from 4 Latin American countries, our presentations show how chagras/chakras (agroforestry plots), recipe revitalization, and other land-based practices and livelihoods serve not just as subsistence strategies, but as acts of memory, resilience, and autonomy. (2/3)

100%. I went to CBD COP16 and was struck by how many well intentioned conservationists, reporters, students, etc there were there, seemingly shouting into the void with little meaningful engagement from governments and corporations. A lack of direct funding schemes is also hindering progress

(2/2) Jane gave me hope that I could one day myself do fieldwork and discover a new frog species (haha). I ultimately didn’t pursue herpetology but hearing that she’s passed away as I conduct fieldwork shows the full influence+inspiration she gave me and millions of other people. Rest in peace Jane!

Thanks for sharing this! Our lady's island was a massive part of my (and many others) childhood

(3/3) I also met new friends and future collaborators who work in the Amazon! And, attended a great lecture from Dr. Puri about the importance of ethnobotanical fieldwork that centers relationship-building and community engagement while exploring the connections between plants + people.

(2/3) My talk was titled "Agroforestry, livelihoods, and knowledge: the dynamic role of chagras in a shifting socioecological landscape". I presented the results of my past 2 field seasons in the Colombian Amazon, and received some useful feedback for my upcoming year in the field.
