I wrote about something I’ve been dealing with this year and it’s very personal and kinda long.
I’ve never made a post so personal like this before but I thought it would be beneficial to share with all of you, especially with the level of anonymity behind this account.
If you read it, thank you 💕
I’d like to share something important about myself with you guys and be real vulnerable. I’ve only talked to two real life people about this in my 33 years of being alive but talking about it has alleviated some distress. This year has been a real struggle for me mentally. I’ve been slowly learning to embrace things about myself that I’ve tried to suppress since I was a child and while it’s been helpful with discovering myself, its also opened up a lot of negative emotions leading to constant depression. A few months ago I finally admitted to myself that I’ve been feeling gender dysphoria for a very, very long time. I was born male but all my life I felt like something was off. It wasn’t until my teen years when I started to wish that was born female instead. It never felt right when I was addressed as “sir” or called a young man or any of that kinda thing. I always felt more comfortable around girls and like I never fit in with boys and it took me a very long time to understand why. The dysphoria started probably around college and it was always off and on because I just kept fighting it. Within the last four years it came up again, only this time it never went away and I felt forced to finally face it. Since then, I’ve come to terms with the idea that the me inside my head does not align with my sex. My internal self image is a woman and I just can’t live my life comfortably as a man, try as I might. This revelation has come with relentless depression, hopelessness and plenty of tears and the only thing that ever helps is embracing my femininity in any way that I’m comfortable with. Even my art serves as an outlet for my dysphoria even though it wasn’t always that way. Eventually it was like drawing women’s bodies was a way of expressing myself because I was creating the feminine physique I’ve always wanted but felt I could never have. I’m writing all of this and sharing it here because I don’t really journal and this online persona and the work that I do is important to me. I feel like I owe it to myself after all these years to finally be true to myself and speak that into existence rather than keep up the masculine facade I’ve tried to hide behind. It’s the reason I’ve never felt any kind of sense of self and have always had this disconnect with my own existence. If you’ve read this far then I’m grateful for your ear, so to speak. There’s so many of you here that have shown support for my art and it’s a big part of me so I wanted to share this part as well. I’ve thought a lot about it and I truly feel that transitioning is the only way I can actually have any semblance of happiness with who I am, something I can’t recall ever feeling in my life. The thought is terrifying to me, honestly. But the other option is to live the rest of my life feeling trapped in my own body and I don’t know if I can live that way anymore.
