Neki's gaze followed hers, over the decorative palm trees outside in the courtyard and the ancient olive grove on the far hills. The sun stood high in a cloudless sky. The wind carried the clinking of glasses and plates from the kitchens, and the mumbling of the guests in the ceremonial hall, though he might only be imagining the latter, as their lodgings would be too far away to hear anything. How did we get here? he thought. Children of the sea, stranded somewhere between the shore and the desert. And now she'll vow to spend her life here. And with that, mine. But where else am I supposed to go? Elaja shook her head, silently, and turned to walk to the bowls of perfumed water by the wren mirror. Neki leaned against the windowsill, enjoying the brief respite the current of air provided him. For a while, he watched his sister clean the red face paint where the tears had smeared it, then let his eyes wander around the generous room, over the fine drapes hanging from the high ceiling, over the colorful frescos on the walls, over the labyrinth of wooden room dividers parting their beds and tables and accubita, and finally the round pool in the center of the room, encircled by columns. Not quite what one might consider a palace, yet still worthy of a sailor princess and her frater. "I just wish they were here," Elaja said, as if to herself, as she washed out the rag. When he didn't answer, she glanced at him, then looked back at the mirror. "I've wished for many things, I suppose." "I'm sorry, wildflower." Neki stepped away from the window, walked up behind her, and set his hands on her shoulders, towering over her fragile frame. His eyes found hers in the mirror, but he couldn't withstand her gaze for long, so he looked at himself as he continued: "I'm all you've got; all that's left. The only of your fleet."

Screenshot BBNYA judges' feedback on It Will Hurt. This is most of the text: Writing Style: I enjoyed the writing and didn't notice any major grammatical errors. Punchy. Fast paced. Sweary and in German I don’t read or comprehend German so I couldn’t understand a lot of it. I found one of the sentences in the opening paragraph to be a bit of a mouthful but after that things improved and overall the writing was solid Story: I was immersed in this story from the first line. I don't think I've ever read a book that began with someone checking themselves into a psych ward. The story felt extremely personal. Original. Dark in places. Draws you in. I don’t speak or read German so I could not understand that part of the story. I need to know what happens next Characters: The main character seemed believable, and I'm curious to learn more about him and what brought him to the point of needing hospitalization. His reaction to the process of admission felt realistic. Just want to hug Nico

After checking out the best-selling hetero romance books I once took notes for a WIP concept titled "I'm So Hot At Least 15 Ex-Navy-Seal Billionaires Are Going To War Over Me"
