I am very much enjoying The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter. Norbert, you're adorable.

Really good book, but perhaps not for me: The West Passage by Jared Pechaček

This was one of those books that I know is really great and I need to recommend because it's not getting enough attention even though it didn't hit quite as hard for me as it did/might for other people.

Really excited to continue the series: Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
December 31, 2025 at 2:55 PM
Re-read it because I love the series: Worldbreaker Saga by Kameron Hurley
December 31, 2025 at 2:55 PM
On going comics/manga I caught up on that continue to be awesome: Monstress (Marjorie M. Liu with Sana Takeda) and Witch Hat Atelier (Kamome Shirahama)

Oh god these are so tonally different but both have amazing art and stories.

Thanks ILL! Read some older Sci-Fi: Downbelow Station by C.J. Cherryh

If you liked the Expanse you should read this!

Re-read an old series and yes, I still really like it despite the flaws: Anne McCaffrey's Crystal Singer series
December 31, 2025 at 2:55 PM
Finally finished/caught up with the series: Jenn Lyons's A Chorus of Dragons and The Chronicles of Osreth by Katherine Addison. (Ok, I think there's some short stories I missed by Addison, but close enough.)

Yes, I still need to watch Wake Up Dead Man, but here's recommendation for a mystery: A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett
December 31, 2025 at 2:55 PM
Actually, you *should* read the franchise tie-in: Star Wars: Reign of the Empire #1 The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed

Did you like Andor? Go read this book.

Most Anticipated Game That's Already Out: Strange Antiquities
Most Anticipated Game That's Not Out Yet: Gecko Gods
December 12, 2025 at 12:40 AM
Didn't Come Out This Year, But You Should Play It: Strange Horticulture and Signalis.
Ok so, creepy English town with plants and creepy space lesbians? Both very good!
December 11, 2025 at 11:34 PM
Came Out This Year and You Should Play It: Promise Mascot Agency.
Yakuza and living mascots, Kaizen Game Works knows how to make a weird and interesting world you want to explore and weird and kinda terrible people you will love!
December 11, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Oh Shit I Didn't Know That Existed and I Haven't Had the Chance to Play It: Routine.
I'm not usually a horror person, but I am a sucker for space horror and the aesthetics of this game are so fucking my jam, it reminds me of Moon and Control and I'm really excited to give it a try!!
December 11, 2025 at 10:58 PM
I Actually Learned How the Weapons Work: Hades II.
I do think Hades II suffers from some sequel-itus, but I really loved how it taught me the combat and the difference between the weapons and boons and the synergy between them in runs. I paid way more attention to that than I did in the first game!
December 11, 2025 at 10:15 PM
Best Mobile Game (Because I played it on my phone even though it's elsewhere): Coquette Dragoon Volume One.
Still in early access, but a great visual novel! Who doesn't love giant robots and cute girls? If you like Friends at the Table's scifi check this out (probably check the content warnings too)
December 11, 2025 at 8:55 PM
It Was Popular, but I Got To It Late: Balatro.
I've played enough to be very happy with this game, but like Slay the Spire, I'll be coming back to it to continue to chip away at some of the parts I haven't beat/unlocked yet!

7/10, Game of the Year: Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor.
Sure these games aren't perfect, but they nail the ridiculous melodrama of Star Wars and make me want to go make LJ icons. I love my boy and his ugly ponchos. Also, BD-1 is the best Star Wars droid.
December 11, 2025 at 8:02 PM
Game of the Year (that didn't come out this year): 1000xResist.
Finally played this and got to read all of the reviews that talk about this game that I had saved away! It's both a great game and there's really interesting critical looks at it that are also well worth reading.
December 11, 2025 at 7:27 PM
It's Still in Early Access, but Damn It's Good: Fields of Mistria.
I already have uh.... 80+ hours in this game and it's not out yet? This is such a good farming sim, I love the Friday Nights at the Inn plots. The character customization is also great, I actually put together seasonal outfits!
December 11, 2025 at 7:21 PM
Game of the Year (that actually came out this year): Citizen Sleeper 2.
If you liked Murderbot you need to play this game and its predecessor. Actually, if you like scifi at all you should be playing this. I absolutely love the story, the writing, the characters, the art, the music, the mechanics!
