When was Lawrence a joke to British journalists? I've been a fan since the 80s and don't keep up with recent (i.e. last 25 years or so) music trends, genuinely asking. I always thought Felt/Denim/GKM was quite revered by NME/Melody Maker

My formative music era as a kid was early 80s, my record collection is a lot of 60s, some early and late 70s but not much in the middle, tons of 80s and a smidge of 90s. Prefer lo-fi to polished, originality to technical ability.

I just picked up Slowness at the SPCA used bookstore. One of his only works I haven't read. Book of Laughter and Forgetting is among my favorite fiction books ever
